I'm Matthew Boyd, and I started Boyd Electrical nearly 10 years ago right here in Whanganui - the place I was born and raised.
After finishing my apprenticeship, I worked for a few different companies and kept seeing the same issues: people getting mucked around, tradies not showing up when they said they would, quotes that didn't match the final bill, and work that was "good enough" instead of done right.
I figured there had to be a better way. So I started Boyd Electrical with a simple philosophy: treat people the way I'd want to be treated. Answer the phone. Show up on time. Give honest advice, even if it means less work for me. Do quality work that'll last. Charge a fair price.
What started as just me and a ute has grown into a solid team of skilled electricians and apprentices. We've wired hundreds of homes, installed countless solar systems, kept businesses running, and helped Whanganui locals with everything from emergency callouts to full commercial fit-outs.
Jack started helping me out when he was just 16 - doing fences, gardening, and digging trenches. When the opportunity came up for him to train as an electrician, he took the leap and never looked back. He's now one of my most trusted team members.
My brother Scott was helping out alongside Jack back in those early days. He watched Jack become an electrician, and two years later decided to follow suit - starting with a couple of days a week doing work experience before fully committing. Now he's qualified and out on the tools too.
When we're not working, you'll find us doing what we love - biking, hunting up the river, or I'm driving boats for Whanganui River Adventures on summer weekends. If you've been up to the Bridge to Nowhere, there's a good chance you've seen me behind the wheel.
We're proud to be locals serving locals. This is our community, and we're here for the long haul.
